Why it matters

The RCM mark is the importer's responsibility — so verification protects you

Australia imported around A$15.7 billion of electronics from China in 2024 — but not every Chinese manufacturer understands Australian compliance, and the legal responsibility sits with the importer. Electrical and electronic products must carry the Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) and, depending on risk level, be registered in the Electrical Equipment Safety System (EESS). The supplier provides AS/NZS test reports and EMC evidence; the Australian importer applies the RCM and signs the Supplier Declaration of Conformity. Get it wrong and products can be detained or destroyed at the border. The most important thing we verify is whether a factory genuinely understands Australian requirements — holds ISO 9001, has exported to Australia, and can supply test reports from accredited labs — versus one that has never heard of RCM.

  • RCM is applied by the Australian importer, but it relies on the factory supplying valid AS/NZS test reports and EMC evidence — we confirm the factory can actually provide them.
  • EESS registration is mandatory for medium- and high-risk equipment (Level 2/3); missing it means non-compliant goods can be detained at the border.
  • Suppliers unfamiliar with RCM, or reluctant to provide compliance documentation, are a red flag we screen for during verification.

Our process

How we source electronics from China

Five checkpoints — with compliance evidence confirmed at the factory, not the wharf.

1

Submit your enquiry

Tell us your product, specification, and volume. We respond within 24 hours.

2

Supplier verification

We authenticate the business licence and confirm a real manufacturer — not a middleman.

3

Factory audit

On the ground in China, we assess capability, quality systems, and standards understanding.

4

Compliance & inspection

We confirm Australian-standards evidence and inspect finished goods against your specification.

5

Ship with confidence

Goods clear to ship with verified compliance documentation — no border surprises.

Why importers trust us with electronics

Every factory we recommend has been physically vetted against a 12-point verification process — business licence, production capacity, quality systems, and compliance evidence. You buy direct and own the relationship.

What we verify against

The key compliance requirements we verify when sourcing electronics from China:

RCMRegulatory Compliance Mark — mandatory electrical/electronic mark
EESSElectrical Equipment Safety System — 3 risk levels
ACMA / EMCElectromagnetic compatibility & radiocommunications
AS/NZSSafety standards + accredited-lab test reports
ISO 9001Quality management — prioritised in supplier selection
RoHSRestriction of hazardous substances

The single most valuable check for electronics is whether the factory genuinely understands Australian compliance and can supply accredited test reports — not just whether the product works on the bench.
